The great elephant migration in southeastern Africa begins in Botswana and cuts across Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park. There are two routes: north to south and west to east. Elephants learn one route, and that is the path they follow to find water during the dry season. We encountered thousands of elephants during our trek as well as Cape Buffalo, giraffe. hippo, zebra, bushbuck, kudu, baboons, Vervett monkeys, a black mamba. and numerous species of birds. But we were there for the elephants and marveled at their devotion to family, their intelligence, and their playfulness.
